Maison Fournier has deep roots in the Loire Valley, with a winemaking history stretching back generations. Based in Sancerre, the estate is known for its expressive Sauvignon Blancs from both sides of the Loire. Les Deux Cailloux is a particularly appealing Pouilly-Fumé, capturing the freshness, citrus character and subtle smoky minerality that make this appellation so distinctive.
The name translates as the two stones, a reference to the vineyard's contrasting soils. The 2025 is made from Sauvignon Blanc grown around Pouilly-sur-Loire, where limestone and flint contribute texture and a savoury mineral edge. The result is a beautifully refreshing white with plenty of character.
Pale straw yellow with delicate green highlights. Pink grapefruit, lemon zest and white peach mingle with elderflower, fresh fennel and a suggestion of struck flint. The palate is crisp and lively, with juicy citrus, subtle stone fruit and a finely textured mineral character. Refreshing acidity and a gentle smoky note carry through a clean, persistent finish.
Try it with grilled squid and salsa verde, fresh crab with cucumber and dill, or asparagus and goat's cheese galette. Its citrus freshness would also be terrific with Vietnamese fish cakes and a fragrant herb salad.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2031. Best appreciated for its youthful fragrance and bright fruit, although a few years in the cellar should develop further savoury complexity.
