The 2025 Hentley Farm Barossa shows its Western Barossa origins as soon as it pours. Deeply coloured, the glass does little to contain the rich black fruited aromas that draw one in with notes of licorice, dark chocolate and preserved fruit. The nose spills onto the full-bodied palate, packed with fruit, spice and fine, if for the time being notable, tannins.

This needs bold flavours on your plate. Think Texas-style dino beef ribs with thick crusts of salt and pepper, or whole charcoal-roasted lamb asado with chimichurri. We’d also bring a charcoal-roasted Pichón-style whole green cabbage to the table, and serve it with a smoked almond romesco and generous amounts of crispy garlicky breadcrumbs.

More about this wine

Shiraz is the dominant variety in Hentley Farm’s Seppeltsfield vineyard, and winemaker Andrew Quin can choose from a rich selection of parcels differentiated by clones, microclimates, elevations and aspects when assembling this wine.

The 2025 growing season was warm and dry across most parts of South Australia, with fast ripening curves bringing in the harvest often weeks ahead of the norm. This wine is all-Shiraz, with some whole bunches included in the ferment, although most of the fruit was de-stemmed. The parcels macerated on skins 7-74 days and were matured in seasoned French oak barrels ahead of final blending and bottling.

About this producer

Hentley Farm was established in 1997 by Keith and Alison Hentschke in the rolling hills of Greenock Creek in the western reaches of the Barossa. Their 150-hectare property sits on a diverse range of soils that coupled with the varying orientations of the land gives them a rich tapestry of fruit styles from their two vineyard sites. Work at the winery has been led by winemaker Andrew Quin since 2008.
