Single vineyard wines from Moorooduc Estate always carry a sense of quiet intent and the Robinson Chardonnay is a beautiful example of Richard and Jill McIntyre’s long commitment to site expression on the Mornington Peninsula. Established in the early 1980s, the estate has remained firmly focused on estate grown fruit, traditional techniques and allowing each vineyard to tell its own story. The Robinson block, influenced by cooling sea breezes and well drained soils, produces Chardonnay with natural tension, aromatic clarity and layered texture, shaped further by wild fermentation and careful oak maturation.

A pale gold shimmer with subtle green flashes signals both freshness and depth. Aromas unfold slowly with white peach, lemon curd and grapefruit layered alongside toasted hazelnut, nougat and a gentle flinty mineral note. There is a savoury complexity that builds beautifully with air. The palate is finely sculpted and medium to full bodied, stone fruit richness flowing across a creamy mid palate before tightening into a chalk edged finish. Bright acidity and subtle oak spice provide structure and persistence, leaving a long, saline tinged echo.

This is the kind of Chardonnay that feels made for considered moments. A decanter on the table, good company gathered close and something delicious roasting in the kitchen as the evening settles in. It pairs effortlessly with grilled lobster, roast chicken with thyme, seared scallops or aged hard cheeses. Drinking superbly now with a little air, yet capable of evolving gracefully for eight to twelve years as honeyed, nutty and savoury complexity deepens. A serious and authentic Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay that highlights Moorooduc’s enduring feel for vineyard nuance.
