In the dramatic alpine landscape of Central Otago, Peregrine Wines has built a strong reputation for producing expressive cool climate wines that capture the purity of the region. The estate was founded in 1998 by the McLachlan family, with vineyards planted across several sites in Gibbston, Bannockburn and Pisa. Peregrine has long focused on sustainable vineyard practices and thoughtful winemaking, allowing the character of Central Otago’s schist soils and intense sunlight to shape the wines. The striking falcon inspired winery reflects the estate’s name, honouring the native New Zealand falcon that soars above the vineyards.
The wine shows a pale straw colour with a soft silver tint. Aromas open with ripe pear, apple and white peach layered with hints of citrus peel and delicate floral notes. As the wine evolves in the glass gentle spice and almond characters begin to appear. The palate is textured and lively with flavours of nashi pear, stone fruit and citrus supported by refreshing acidity and a smooth mouthfeel.
A subtle savoury edge adds complexity before a long clean finish that highlights the freshness of Central Otago fruit. It works beautifully with seafood dishes, pork, roast chicken or lightly spiced Asian inspired cuisine.
