Bordet always produces a strong Petit Chablis
- Jancis Robinson
On the nose, initial cool hints of limestone and chalky crushed rock, with notes of yellow peach, mandarin and linden blossom. Juicy and fresh on the palate, notes of ripe yellow fruit, a mineral base, good acidity and a long, salty finish. Great on its own, but also a versatile food wine.

Domaine Séguinot-Bordet is one of Chablis’ historic family estates, with the family’s roots in the region stretching back to the late 1500s. Today Jean-François Bordet continues that remarkable lineage from Maligny, producing bright, expressive wines that marry Chablis tradition with an immediately appealing style. The Petit Chablis is the breezy little brother of the cellar — fresh, energetic and designed to be enjoyed without too much ceremony.
The 2025 vintage brings youthful fruit and plenty of zip. Petit Chablis is typically grown on the higher slopes and plateaux around the region, where Portlandian limestone and Chablis’ cool northern climate encourage crisp acidity and citrus-driven flavours. It’s a lighter expression of the region, but still carries that wonderfully refreshing stony character that makes Chablis such a natural partner at the table.
Pale straw with flashes of green, the nose jumps from the glass with lemon, green apple and crunchy pear alongside white flowers and grapefruit zest. The palate is crisp and lively, with citrus and orchard fruit carried by bright acidity and a gentle mineral edge. Light on its feet and wonderfully dry, it finishes with lemon peel, green apple and a clean, mouthwatering snap.
This is the bottle you want permanently chilled: oysters with lemon, salt-and-pepper squid, prawn tacos with lime, sushi, goat’s cheese or proper fish and chips with plenty of tartare sauce. My pick is the squid — hot, salty, crunchy and gone alarmingly quickly when there’s cold Petit Chablis on the table.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2030.
