2025 Tomfoolery Young Blood Shiraz, Barossa Valley

This is the latest vintage of Young Blood Shiraz from Ben Chipman. Inspired by the Joven wines of the old world, Young Blood Shiraz is released as a youngster with just a brief barrel maturation to showcase pure varietal character and vibrant, youthful energy.

Pouring a vivid ruby, it opens with an aromatic burst of fresh raspberries, spicy bramble, and dark cherry, topped with subtle peppery florals. Vibrant damson plum and juicy red berries roll across the tongue, supported by a line of crunchy, refreshing acidity and fine, soft tannins.

It is a Shiraz built for immediate, uncomplicated pleasure and drinks well with a slight chill, too. Bring on zero-cooking grazing boards, or rustle up flatbreads with caramelised onions, soft feta and thyme.

Fruit for the Young Blood wines is sourced from growers across the Barossa sites and open fermented with variable whole bunch inclusions and indigenous yeasts. After a week of post-ferment maceration, the wine is gently basket pressed, with half racked to stainless steel and half into well-seasoned French oak hogsheads for a brief six-month maturation.

Mentored by some of Barossa’s most respected names before venturing out on his own, he built his own winery in 2014 on the homestead he and his wife Sarah had purchased on the eastern slopes of the Barossa a couple of years earlier. His overall style could be described as aromatic, floral and structured.
