Tasmania has become one of the Southern Hemisphere's great Pinot Noir destinations, and few producers have contributed more to its modern reputation than Two Tonne Tasmania. Founded by Ricky Evans in 2013, the winery quickly gained a cult following for wines that emphasise purity, site expression and drinkability. Evans works with growers across Tasmania's leading regions, focusing on fruit that captures the island's cool climate character while maintaining an unmistakably Tasmanian sense of place.
The EST Pinot Noir serves as an introduction to the Two Tonne philosophy, blending fruit from carefully selected vineyards across the state. Rather than aiming for sheer power, the wine is crafted to highlight freshness, perfume and texture. The 2025 vintage has produced fruit of exceptional vibrancy, with excellent natural acidity and finely detailed tannins, resulting in a Pinot Noir that is both approachable and distinctly sophisticated.
Bright ruby red in colour, the aromas leap from the glass with wild strawberry, red cherry and raspberry, complemented by rose petals, baking spice and subtle forest floor notes. A gentle savoury edge emerges with air, bringing hints of dried herbs and earthy complexity. The palate is silky and energetic, combining juicy red berry fruits with fine tannins and a delicate mineral thread. There is a lovely sense of balance throughout, with fresh acidity providing lift and precision before a long, elegant finish that lingers with notes of cherry, spice and dried flowers.
This is a wonderfully versatile Pinot Noir for the table. Enjoy it with duck pancakes, grilled salmon, roast chicken with thyme, mushroom pappardelle or a roasted beetroot and goat's cheese tart. Its youthful charm makes it irresistible now, but the balance and structure will allow it to develop gracefully over the next six to eight years. Capturing the brightness, finesse and purity that have made Tasmania famous, it is a superb introduction to one of Australia's most exciting Pinot Noir producers.
Cellaring: Drink from now through 2033.
