“No Champagne house today is on a trajectory as steep as Jacquesson. While many houses are on the prowl for more fruit to increase production, Jacquesson is drastically slashing its yields and its contracts to radically improve quality in spite of lowering quantity. When others set out to make a consistent blend every year, Jacquesson throws uniformity to the wind to draw the best blend out of every vintage. Each time I look, this little house in the village of Dizy appears more like a fanatical grower producer. Jacquesson has leapt from ranking among Champagne’s top 20 houses to a lofty position among its top 10.”

2013 harvest from Ay, Dizy, Hautvillers, Avize and Oiry. The winter was very cold and snowy, with spring and early summer staying cold and very damp, causing coulure and millerandage as well as delaying the flowering. However, August and September were warmer and drier giving us a late, but excellent, harvest.

The Pinot Noir from Ay and Dizy and the Chardonnays from Avize were particularly successful. The harvest was complemented by the addition of some reserve wines. – Jean-Hervé & Laurent Chiquet

2013 base vintage - Disgorged May 2018 - Tasted in Champagne
Aÿ, Dizy, Hautvillers, Avize and Oiry;  2.5g/L dosage
In the Grande Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs, 2013 was a superb vintage, and Jean-Hervé Chiquet reports the pinot noir from Aÿ and Dizy and the chardonnay from Avize as particularly successful. He has encapsulated all the body and personality of Jacquesson in this great season, creating an even and harmonious accord between the red apple and grapefruit intensity of ripe fruit and the deeply spicy layers of barrel fermentation character. Bright acidity lends crunch and bite amidst the subtle grip of phenolic texture, uniting in a confident finish of great length, tension and character. At once energetic and crunchy, and at the same time contemplative and multifaceted, it coasts on a fine line of focused acidity and salty minerality. This release exemplifies the acute sense of detail and inimitable personality of the house more accurately than ever.
